MR. CHARLES FELDER's Obituary
Marie Felder and Moses Price. Charles was educated in the Detroit Public School System where he attended Northwestern High School.
Charles gave his life to Christ at an early age and he later became a member of Disciples of Christ Baptist Church, under the leadership of Bishop Gregory A Simmons. Charles was an active member serving on the Deacon Board, Media Ministry, Youth Ministry, Music Ministry and often had his hands in everything! Charles was an original member of the gospel singing group known as the Spiritual Six. To know him is to know and understand his deep passion and love for family and music.
As a teenager, he worked at Evans Brothers Market, where his brother-n-law and owner trained him in meat cutting. He went on to master his craft as a professional butcher working and supporting his family over the years at Piquette Market and later Farmer Jack, until his early retirement due to his health.
On October 9, 1973, Charles and Georgette were married and for the next four decades, they worked tirelessly together to support their four children and grandchildren. Their bond was second to none; when you saw one, you saw the other. Charles loved his family and was loved by everyone he came in contact with, especially his community. On the west side of Detroit near Grand River and Dexter, Charles was known as the neighborhood “Dad”. The Steps of 4066 Montgomery were a known gathering place for everyone, especially during the summers when he coached little league baseball team, "The Cardinals,” through the Detroit Police Athletics League. He brought his love of sports to life through the young men he coached and mentored.
After his retirement he turned his energy to becoming the Family’s “DJ”. There was never a “Sparks’ party” without the masterful sounds from “DJ Charlie Mack”. Charles was the baby boy of the family and in his early days, he was no angel and certainly gave his share of headaches to his mother, Marie, and older siblings, but later matured and became the glue to holding the family together.
Charles Felder leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife and soulmate of 48 years, Georgette; children: Marcale, Marquita, Martinez (Ayana), Markus; Curtis who preceded him in death. Siblings: Julia Maxwell (David) and Four siblings who preceded him in death, Calante (Roosevelt), Tyrone (Gwendolyn), Felix (Matte) and Martinez. Finally, eight grandchildren: Kiara, Desiree, Martinez, Raymond, Ania, Elin, Amare and Olivia, nieces, nephews and a host of cousins who were like siblings, and friends who were like family. Charles Felders’ memory will forever live on.
