MR. FRANKLIN EDWARD GRIER's Obituary
Obituary
Franklin Edward Grier
Franklin (Frank) Edward Grier was born on July 26, 1939 in Greenville, Georgia. He was the eighth of nine children born to the late Paul Grier, Sr. and Flossie Dewberry Grier Reese. He departed this life peacefully on September 20, 2018 at home in the loving care of his faithful son and best friend Malcolm and daughter-in-love Charlita. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rose Marie, granddaughter Cali Rose, three brothers (McKinley, Paul, Fred) and four sisters (Helen, Ruby, Flossie, Marietta).
Frank received Christ at an early age and worshipped with his family at Arbor Chapel United Methodist Church in Warm Springs, GA. He was educated in the Meriwether County Public Schools and graduated from high school before being drafted in 1962 into the United States Army as an Infantry Assistant Machine Gunner. Although he was drafted, he was honored to serve his country for two years at Fort Knox, KY, Fort Ord, CA and in Germany.
After being honorably discharged from service, he moved to Detroit, Michigan where several of his family members had settled. He was a self-proclaimed connoisseur of “good” music (because to him all music wasn’t good music), enjoyed photography, and loved to cook. For several years, he worked alongside his brother Paul at Lafayette Orleans, one of downtown Detroit’s finest restaurants. In 1964, he began working for Chrysler Automotive, assembling engines for Dodge vehicles, which was his favored brand. He was employed for 31 years at the Mound Road Engine Plant before retiring in 1995. Detroit was also where he met and married the late Rose Marie Jacobs and to this union they were blessed to be loving parents to two daughters; Joya and Sandra and a son; Malcolm.
Frank leaves to cherish his memory, his loving children; Joya Grier, Sandra Dixon (Randy) and Malcolm Grier (Charlita); three grandchildren, Raven Tyus, Darian and Devin Dixon; one great-granddaughter Milani Foust-Dixon; his loving sister and the last of the nine, Florine Johnson-Molett (Robert); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends.
