In Memoriam
T’was yesterday, heard that sad news
Streaming so bad: a life has fled
My Eyes blur’, my heart sorrow
Follow footsteps our man Fred
Nine months ago, in the summer heat
We meet: friends, ploughed ahead
Split time working, writing… and eat
That’s how I knew our man Fred
What he did… first I not clear
Sat on my left he talked I hear’
His phone rings loud filling the shed
He kept talking, our man Fred
He called sick folks, sharing his life
“I was like… once.” warm words he pled
His even tone, calming strife
Health coach he was, our man Fred
Lifting souls deep in temptations
“You pull away such terrible meds!”
In split seconds, rushed to actions
Thus was his goal: our man Fred
“I can get you, meeting your needs
Daily breads, lodging and meds”
His heart aimed for “planning more seeds”
Such conviction, our man Fred’s
Exploits he shared, past escapades
“Fly morning, ev’ning base’s bed
C-ration, guns, n’ grenades
Iliad’s Homer, our man Fred
Three turns one week he kept commute
Even though health hangs by thread
Knowing troubles may turn acute
Push on working, our man Fred
As health worsened, he kept fighting
His spirit strong but body bled
Last breaths gave way; soul kept singing
Alas, such life, our man Fred’s
Now you have come: eternal home
Feel safe and sound heavenly bed
You, we will miss this earthly dome
Rest in peace. Oh, our man Fred!
