MR. MARK SAINTCYE SMITH SR.'s Obituary
Mark St. Cye Smith Sr. was born June 8, 1952 to the late Douglas Lee Sr. and Ethel Jeanette in Detroit, MI. Born and raised in the Historic North End District he enjoyed life with his 5 siblings by blood and countless siblings by relation. During Mark’s formative years on Melrose St. he was known to be handsome, popular and loving.
Mark was educated within the Detroit Public Schools system and graduated from Northern Senior High School. While still in high school he secured a position at Chevrolet where he learned plant life was not for him therefore marking the start of his business acumen and entrepreneurial mentality. Immediately after graduation he moved to New York City to begin his creative artist writing career and experience adulthood. Being the visionary that he was, after 15 years of the New York life Mark returned to his roots in Detroit ready to begin a life of entrepreneurship. Mark began his career as upper management for various organizations before branching off into several of his own businesses. Mark exceled as an Author, Proprietor, Film Creator/Writer, Contractor, Business Owner and most recent Horticulture Specialist (which was near and dear to his heart). While building his portfolio and mastering several disciplines he still found time to meet and marry the love of life LaVette Sherre to whom he spent 22 amazing years.
Known for being smooth on the dance floor and throughout life Mark stood strong on the principal of Family First. With an extremely kind heart he would always be there to help those who needed him. He worked hard and played hard, always living life to the fullest.
Mark leaves his great legacy to his devoted wife LaVette, daughter Keysha Jeanette, son Mark St Cye Jr, Grand Children Makai, Kailyn, Ximena and Camari. Siblings Douglas Jr, Michael (deceased), Phillip, Sarita (Rob) and David (Shawana) honorary brother Al, Mother-in-law Callie, Brother-in-laws Darrell & Kenneth and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
