Olla Grimmett's Obituary
OBITUARY
On March 29, 1934, in Columbus, Mississippi, Ola Mae Grimmett was born the eldest of eight children to Mr. Robert Sturdivant Sr. and Mrs. Annie Mae Sturdivant. Ola Mae Grimmett accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. She remained an active member of her home Churches in Huntsville, AL andSumpter, MI. She loved her Church and the members of Power House Evangelistic Ministries. In 2017, she chose to become a member and served on the Mothers Board. Ola loved to serve others whom she felt needed a voice and dedicated her life to such a service.
Ola completed the 10th grade at Westfield High School in Alabama. In 1949 she married Perry Tucker (Deceased) and to their union was born one son Frison (Sharon) Tucker andtwo daughters Altanette Williams and Janet Tucker-Slay(Deceased). On November 29, 1974, Ola married Ellington Grimmett. They were Blessed share a blended family, which includes Gwen (Artie B.) Jenkins, Lawrence (Katherine) Grimmett, Terreance (Heidi) Grimmett, Imiuri (Rodney)McDaniel, Peter Grimmett (Deceased), Steve Grimmett, Meaca Douglas, and James Grimmett.
In the 1950’s-60’s, Ola worked as a “Domestic.” Color maids were called Domestic if they worked in White family houses. Momma and her favorite aunt, Emma Moorehead-King, worked a few jobs together. She also worked at Spartan Atlantic, a new department store, stocking shelves and tagging items. This new department store was located on Lyndon St. in Detroit. It was a good environment, a good paying job, and she received a great discount. Ola also worked at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport in the janitorial department, where she famously would say, “Its clean or is it not? Can’t be both.” Although she could not
Mrs. Ola Mae Grimmett was a homemaker and a fosterparent. Ellington and Ola chose to adopt because they had so much love to give and wanted to continue to give love to those who needed it most. Ola was the embodiment of quiet strength, determination, patience, love and most of all faith. She was an independent, nurturing, strong, loving and most of all a woman of GOD. Throughout her health struggles, she continued to support her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
On December 7, 2021, at Henry Ford Hospital W.Bloomfield, MI Mrs. Ola Mae Grimmett was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Honoring her life, Ola Mae Grimmett leaves two brothers Claude (Loreatha)Sturdivant and Robert Sturdivant, sisters Louise Sturdivant-Norman (Deceased), Paulette (Ray) Butler, and Rosemary Webster, Six sons, five daughters, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and very close friends she considered family.
