MR. WALTER EUGENE PARKS, JR.'s Obituary
Walter Eugene Parks, Jr., was born March 12, 1947; in Detroit, Michigan to Mary Ellen and Walter Eugene Parks Sr. His parents, one brother Vincent (Angella) and two sisters Diane and Valerie preceded him death.
Walter accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member at Pine Grove MBC under leadership of Pastor Debirley Pastor.
Walter attended the Ecorse Public School System. While in high school Walter participated in many sports, basketball, football, cross country and track. After graduation, Walter attended college for a few years, but returned home to start his career.
Walter was employed by Great Lakes Steel, as Furnace Helper and then in 1965 employed with Ford Motor Company, where he then transitioned to the Rouge Steel Division and became a Vessel Operator until his retirement in April 2004, after 41 years of service.
Walter started his road to recovery on March 17, 1991; in the Tri-City area, where he served faithfully and became one of the first representative for the Tri-City Meetings for the DACNA, and Board.
Walter had an active role as Head of Security at his beloved church Pine Grove, and served on the Missionary Board and Nurse Ministry. You didn’t have to ask him what church he went to. He proudly told you my church is Pine Grove and my Pastor is Pastor Porter, stop by the best church in the world.
Walter was known for styling and profiling. If it wasn’t his sharp suites, or crisp hats; it was his clean gator shoes; that were just right for hitting the dance floor. He also loved sports and turned his love of football into serving the youth of the community by volunteering with River Rouge Junior Panther team in 2009. He was affectionately known as Coach Parks and served faithfully until 2013.
Walter was joined in holy matrimony with Sonya for 24 years. To this union two children were born.
Walter departed his earthly home on March 17, 2021; to Glory on what was his 30 years ‘Clean Date’ Anniversary.
Walter leaves to cherish his memory, loving devoted wife Sonya; five sons Terrance, Gavin (Akilah), Doron, Walter III, Dovon; two daughters Toia (Dwayne), Felecia (Gage); adopted daughter Shae, adopted son Scottie; 23 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one brother Benjamin; his “Bruh” Melvin (Denise); one Aunt Willa (Al); one uncle Walter; Godmother Mama Zedora Miller, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
