MRS. WANDA JUNE JOHNSON's Obituary
Wanda June Austin was born on April 26, 1939 to the late Adrian Sr. and Ophelia Austin in Cleaton, KY. Wanda was the eldest of three children born to this union. The family moved to Detroit, MI in 1947.
Wanda accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Providence Baptist Church. Later in life Wanda was a member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, Synagogue Baptist Church and lastly Mt. Zion New Covenant Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Charles Middleton Jr. During her membership at Mt. Zion Wanda loved to attend Sunday School before Worship and Bible Study. She was a proud member of the Mother’s Board and often attended the annual Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship Conference and the annual Global United Fellowship Conference.
Wanda was educated in the Detroit Public School System and graduated from Cass Technical High School. Wanda worked at Providence Hospital as a Nurse under Dr. Vaughn for several years until she took a position with the Internal Revenue Service where she worked her way up to Management and retired in 1994.
Wanda always had a thirst for knowledge and highly enjoyed reading. She would read on average 6 books a week from cover to cover. She amassed so many books until she stopped purchasing them and would go to the library every week and check out the books she wanted to read. Aside from reading Wanda enjoyed many hobbies, she loved to travel and was a member of a women’s social club called La Feminiques for more than 30 years.
Wanda was welcomed into Heaven by the loving arms of her Mother, Ophelia; Father, Adrian Sr.; Son, Michael; Husband, Marion and her Nephew Lonnie.
Wanda leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life: Devoted Sons, Rodney, Karl (Sally) and Paul; Loving Brothers, Adrian Jr. (Gloria) and Larry; Grandchildren, La Tanya, Khamisi and Kwame; Great- Grandson, Michael: Nieces, Valerie (James) and Stephanie (Joe Nathan); Nephews, Larry II and Dominique; Great-Nephews, Robert (Serae), Adrian and Jordon; Great-Nieces, Jaelyn, Kaeta and Armani; Great- Great Niece, Niah Elizabeth; Long Time Supportive Friends, Gloria Brountie and Sylvia Moore and a host of many other relatives and friends too numerous to name.
