Shirley and I were married thirty- seven years ago and my bother Willie served as my best man. Getting ready, I was nervous and Willie came in my room like only a big brother can, that big ear to ear smile, saying, "You ready for this"? He'd brought a fifth of Hennessey, the drink back in the day, popped the cork, almost gave himself a swig, but handed me the bottle. My mouth was dry, and after I took maybe five swallows, the burn hit me so hard I cried. "Aw Mack, it ain't going to be that bad"!
I caught my breath as he turned the bottle up, "Just a little hot going down, I ain't worried for nothing" I confessed. He passed the bottle back, only a third left now. "Long as you love her that's all that matters" . I finished the bottle, hearing the only words I needed to hear from my best man and brother.
