I met Auntie Lena many years ago while in Detroit for a family funeral. She and my Uncle’s wife were sisters. She grew up in Elmore County and my Mom knew her and her sisters because some of them went to school together. I also had the privilege of knowing her Mother, Mrs. Bertha Thomas for many years. They were extended family to me so that is why I call her, “Auntie “ too.
I always truly enjoyed being in her presence. She was always loving and kind to me. She was a very positive lady and she had a wonderful sense of humor. Whenever I thought of her, I always thought about how she could make me laugh. Every time she came home to visit Aunt Helen I always made my way to visit her because I just loved being around her. She was so special to me that I gave her a nickname, “The Legendary Lena Collins.”
As her family mourns her passing, so do I. You always remember those people who make your heart smile, and Auntie Lena was that person. My family and I extend our heartfelt condolences to her sister, Mrs. Minnie Kendrick, and all of the other members of the family. You shall continue to be in my prayers. It is said, “ Earth hath no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.” Auntie Lena shall always be in my heart and I shall always remember The Legendary Lena Collins with a smile on my face and precious memories of her in my spirit. I pray that she knew how much I loved and appreciated her. To God be the glory for her long and prosperous life! Though I am unable to physically be there with you, please know that my love and prayers are with you. May God strengthen and comfort you in this time of loss.
